Interesting.. so it would seem that the actual hiring of pilots for 2017 may just over the number of pilots retiring/leaving the Seniority List.

Think there is still a pretty good disparity between total pilots on the list vs. Active Pilots.

I laughed years ago when people were stating 16000 and 18000 pilots on the list.
Not gonna happen.
Lets just hope that we continue to hire to cover retirements.

Recently in the Computer Based Training, there was a slide that mentioned 2000 pilots retiring in the next 5 years, and the hiring of 3000 pilots with 4000 transitioning!
So, basic math would leave us to believe that if we lose about 400 pilots a year, we will hire about 600.
A far cry from the 1200 that the union mentioned a few months ago.

Until we see a major growth order of aircraft, don't expect huge numbers of hiring. Just my opinion. That being said, we will still be hiring, which is better than not hiring, let alone furloughing!
