It begins the first day of the month that begins after you have 30 days of service, so... up to two months after you start. (See JB's first and second values, $avety and caring).

As far as travel. No annual fee, but you're expected to donate janitorial services after each flight. Mint is currently $75 each leg, unlike our peers' and regional's free first class upgrades (maybe United excepted).
