It still really doesn't address the problems in recruiting. For the candidate, they get the same wage whether or not their buddy gets the referral bonus. So they can come to compass for 41 bucks an hour, or go elsewhere and collect a bonus (for higher total compensation). The only time having the highest dollar amount FO pay scale matters is in a recession or some other stagnation. This is why I agree with ALPA that it needs to be negotiated into the CBA rather than some arbitrary bonus which can disappear into thin air. Fortunately it's not looking like we're on the verge of one, but I don't have a crystal ball.


I think the company did the new rate plus PHX to see how many more pilots that'll bring then if that doesn't work the last resort would be negotiation for higher rates.
