Federal Express had two pay rates DC10, B727. FTL had three pay rates B747, DC8, B727. Pay reduction in Nov/Dec 1986 was not quite 50% but hefty. Company Invest Fund, 6% I believe were suspended. My last full year B747 F/O, 1984 W2 $111,000. Last full year B727 Captain, 1987 W2 $61,500. Last year DC8 Captain, 1988 W2 $98,500. B727 at FTL operated under ALPA LOA. Hourly rate for Captain about the same for B747 F/O. B727 No trip or duty rigs for 90% of the flying. FTL rates changed to reduced wide body, narrow body on merger. Purple rates changed from DC10/B727 at merger date. I recall it took FTL pilots 18 months to achieve parity on pay rates. FTL had a max of 45 days vacation, pay about 2.5 hrs a day. FDX had 35 days max(not sure if it was less at merger), pay 7 hours a day.
