As far as open time, pilots are creatures of habit. Everyone looks out for themselves and not the greater good of the pilot workforce. There are many people at Compass and other airlines that use open time to supplement there income for various reasons (kids, toys, medical bills, student loans). Asking people to not pickup open time while honorable isn't going to be accepted here or anywhere.
So asking a pilot not to cross a picket line is honorable but you don't expect that to happen?
I only pose the question because I do get that people have bills etc, but the same reasons you gave for picking up open time are the same ones scabs give to non scab captains at United/Continental today. I'm pretty sure everyone has bills to pay whether they scabbed or not.
