Sorry to get OT, but do the long term disability insurance that most airlines offer cover one losing their medical, if they are able to work in another job that doesn't require one? What about bridging the pay gap if you couldn't replace your income?
My regional has a Harvey Watt plan that essentially covers your take home pay if you cannot fly until age 65. I assume most majors have a similar thing.
State disability plans will only cover own occupation for maybe three years, after that you have to get a mcjob unless truly disabled.
