While I applaud this improvement, the weak link in the system is still the guy at the belt with the scanner. Other airlines have invested in RFID chips built into the baggage label which automatically scan as they are loaded onto the plane. I would think the savings from lost bags would justify the expense, not to mention the tacit savings of improved customer satisfaction.
