I had a chance to speak with the current Captain upgrade class at Republic, they're sitting at the four year mark. You could reasonably expect a shrinking of that number, unless there's an economic downturn or something to slow it.

In general, QOL trumps all. Look towards your priorities, and pick the company that meets as many of them as possible.
