Over the last 2-3 months, WSI has been functional (using free wifi) on most of the 767-300s. The only ones it doesn't seem to work on are the earliest ones, with the separate radar/terrain switches on the forward panel.
It has been an evolution...three years ago, wifi nearly
always worked on the 757RR jets.
Two years ago, started having a few issues on the RR jets, and it worked about 60% of the time (domestically) on 767-300s.
Then, a year and a half ago, it was crap on all of them, except the gogo PS jets.
Except for the gogo jets, I believe almost the entire fleet has Panasonic equipment. Why? Because they offered it at no cost to install.
Unfortunately, a few maintenace guys have told me that parts are failing for which maintenance has no procedures, parts, or authorization....and Panasonic was on back-order for parts or technicians.
Are the parts finally getting into the system? Unknown...I just know I've seen it work better since June than I have in a long time.
All the above was gleaned from a variety of sources. This article was particularly enlightening. I still think Panasonic is the worst provider in the market....and the reason the equipment was "free."
