And that is why PBS is a "NO" for me. Most months the reserve grid is much more green than required before IOT starts so lines could have been build with more days off (and more soft time, or more days of for reserves) but the company wants us to drop the trips and lose the pay. Even with line bidding they will not honor the contract, and we need "at least twice a month", or "minimum 15/16 days off average for hard lines" added to the current language. PBS would be a can of worms were it would take the scheduling committee man-years every month to see if the company was following the contract.

As an example I was awarded a relief line (relief lines for all=PBS), I asked for a block of days off. In my award I had a block of reserve days exactly covering the days I wanted off, and all those days were green by +10 on the grid. Also at the beginning of the month I had a block of 5 days off were reserve was -10 red. I had the scheduling committee look at it and 3 guys with lower seniority then mine were awarded days off in my block of reserve. I ended up being able to get rid of the block but it was hours of work. Do we really want that?
Relief lines for all=PBS? That's just flat out wrong dude. I'm not advocating one way or the other, but if you're going to be against PBS, at least make your case factual. Our relief lines are purely pot luck because they are at the whim of crew planning. There's no computer input, so you're relying on human input to make sure it honors seniority regarding requests for days off.
