Yup they wanted to screw him and send a warning to any other pilots contemplating making a latteral move (during the stagnation). It wouldn't be on an aviation record like PRIA to my knowledge, but it would definitely make any subsequent interviews difficult. Fortunately ALPA had the firing overturned.
