It's not at all hard to say. You either show a marriage license, or proof that you have lived together for a while (think it is 6 months?) Just as proving that someone is your child; it's very simple with a birth certificate.

What IS hard is trying to convince the company you are co-domiciled when you are not. I am sure that could trip some folks up. But I applaud you for not being willing to lie to gain a benefit you are not entitled to.
