I am towing banners right now and I can tell you, It is only dangerous if you make it dangerous... or if the planes are well maintained(but poor maintenance is smaller cause of crashes) most of the banner towing accidents that happen are due to people simply not checking their hook.
I am also logging about 25 hours a week and making ~$35 an hour starting. its pretty nice for my first flying job.
