Getting back to NetJets. Why do many pilots stay on indefinitely, well past an appropriate retirement age? Well, there a lot of senior pilots on the 72 and 76 day schedules. Many haven't seemed to save an adequate amount for retirement and have lived well beyond their means. Some others have family dysfunction or a poor quality of life at home. I'm of the opinion if airlines didn't have a mandatory medical out age the same problem would exist there, many pilots seem to be of that personality type.
can we all agree that NetJets disastrous compensation package (for those being hired now) puts you at an extreme disadvantage for saving for retirement? Both the base compensation as well as the lack of DC into 401k put you hundreds of thousands of dollars behind even LCCs.
Taking a job at NetJets in 2017 (rhetorical since they aren't hiring) pushes you into a situation where you are much more likely to have to keep working into your old age.
