I have heard talk that jumpseating mainline pilots can list several hours early for a jumpseat on some of the connection carriers vs the hour prior walkup method. I was trying to get home a few days ago and the agent said it was taken already by another mainline pilot. I was surprised by this as I was the only one at the gate when she opened up the flight an hour before scheduled departure time.

When I spoke to the pilot who had the jumoseat, he stated that he went to another gate hours before and they listed him.

Is this true? This was a Republic flight, but I would also be curious if this is the same on Skywest, Endeavor, etc.
