They can see if a pilot refused to waive the contract at their old company, or used sick leave, or refused an airplane, and if they aren't a "company pilot" they can just pass on them. True. Although in my time at XJT, it wasn’t as bad as some other places in regards to some of what you mentioned.
But I am surprised at some of the pilots that I heard got through the process. Just like OTS.
Also heard the sick call rate summer 2016 was extremely low compared to previous ones.
