What were his reasons for voluntary termination? We usually see that from guys that are about to get FNAEB'd for performance and would rather VOLTERM and preserve a FITREP. Technically its the CO removing the aviator from flight status due to a voluntary request so he will have to explain his removal from flight status at every interview for the rest of his life.
The gold wings are his for completing training (and accepting the service obligation). VOLTERM does nothing about the service obligation...he still has to serve whatever years he has left as a 130X designator.
