He wasn't visionary, as far as the last contract goes. He gave his last/best final offer to the union, and they said no. He stopped negotiating. When he realized that X number of his planes would be parked on ramps gathering dust for lack of crews, he came back to the union with a reasonable offer, which is their new contract. It was only because of the Pilot Shortage that they got a decent contract, not because of Connie.
True statement plus Connie was called in DC to explain why he wasn't on the table negotiating so they told him get it done. The DC pressure scared him for sure. He never been called to DC before.
