It depends. I live very close to Dothan but I have other options available. Three other airports within a 2.5 hour drive are Montgomery, Pensacola, and Destin.
Dothan is a bit tough, I don't think AA operates there at all which means trying to jumpseat on whoever does.
VPS and PNS both have plenty of commuters that use them. Flights from PNS include both 1 and 2 leg flights to CLT (like PNS-MIA-CLT), but I didn't check our other bases. I flew a DCA to VPS turn the other day, so I know that could allow a 1-leg commute.
Making the drive to any of them will suck, but I'm sure some of the RTP pilots still live down there and do it.
