Not completely sure about the C-2 but I have good friends who flew both the C-2 and E-2; I believe both have similar engines, configurations, and comparable handling characteristics. I know of many pilots who have successfully brought an E-2 aboard the boat single engine. In fact, here's a picture of a good friend of mine doing so (note feathered and stationary prop on port engine)...

As others have alluded to, though, whether or not that aircraft can successfully recover aboard the boat depends greatly on the nature and the timing of the engine failure.
