There have been some TSO,d installations with own-ship for many years now. The issue that AIR (aircraft certification) reference the pervious version of the Advisory Circular that prohibited own-ship was that the position information for “own ship” may be coming from a different source (EFB) than the GPS sensor used in the aircraft’s certified avionics. Now that the AC has been rewritten, the onus is on the operator/PIC to validate and confirm the position accuracy of the own-ship displayed GPS position is acceptable.
