If a pay deal is going to happen, then they better be quick about it. Before a certain something gains enough traction and prevents Inc. from even having that option in the short term. If it comes to a point where they need to raise pay to attract pilots, but are no longer legally able to, it could make things difficult.

Lock status quo when the company really needs to attract new hires, and then hold FO pay rates hostage for the benefit of the rest of the group.
Possible risk that they might call the bluff and shrink rather than pony up.
