You raise a very interesting point which I was never able to resolve when I lived in California. California forces companies to buy carbon credits to offset their carbon emissions. The carbon credits come from things like solar power, wind power, etc. Supposedly, when you put in solar panels, you generate offsets. When I lived in California, I installed 1000 sq ft of panels. I should have been generating carbon offsets which have value in the carbon emissions market. Why wasn't I able to sell the offsets? I wrote to the state commission about that, but they never responded. Who is generating the offsets that companies are forced to purchase, and who is getting the money for these offsets? It has the makings a billion dollar slush fund. I was never able to figure it out.
