You can schedule those FTD trainers when they are not scheduled for use with other people/instructors. My sim partner and I scheduled them just a few days per week after our training sessions, and I think I learned more when it was just my sim partner and myself in there because we knew what we needed to work on based on our training session earlier that day. Talk to Paul, his office is right there by where the FTD trainers are, and he'll get you scheduled. Super nice guy.
Yup, did that and highly recommend it. Same with classrooms with the Matrix software in them, with no class in session. It's explicitly OK to go in abs use it. (This is the same software as the FTD's, but on a simple desktop computer instead of the cockpit-like array of touchscreens. Used for systems instruction rather than procedure practice. But you can still use it for some of the latter, if you can stand the clumsy interface.)
