As someone else said...a321Lr = A321neo + more tanks. Two separate names but basically the same thing. Don’t know that a NEO can be retroactively converted to an LR...NEOs are being delivered...LRs aren’t until 2019. Looks like the LR requires the fuselage to have the new config with L2/R2 removed and replaced with overwing exits (2nd link) that comes out next year.

Airbus seems to think the 4 door per side version will go away and they want all A321s to have the overwing exits. This takes away the L2 boarding capability.

Airbus: “We can offer the four-door configuration for the A321neo if the market requires it. There are today more than 1,000 A321s in service and more than 2,300 have been ordered. So the four-door A321 fleet will be very important by 2018. But there are a lot of benefits associated to A321neo ACF, including full cabin layout flexibility, so our customers will move to ACF progressively as it becomes available.”
