Not sure what federal poverty line you are referring to, but for a family of 4, it’s actually $24,600, or about half of what a FYFO makes at JB.

No one said you were rich. But poverty? Far from it. Yes, NY is an expensive place to live. So is AK and HI. And all of them have one thing in common - you can choose to live there, or elsewhere.
(FWIW - If you earn less than $45,510 in NY, which I doubt you do, you qualify for WIC. It’s really beneficial for the kids.

Turns out a year 1 FO with 2 kids is right at the federal poverty line. If he has more kids he qualifies for WIC. This is Federal mind you and doesnt account for zip code. In NYC the estimates are you need 3 times the federal numbers to survive, or about $150k. So, If I live in NYC (you know, our largest base) and I have 2 kids, I actually am below the poverty line.
