He’s on reserve. Its his job to do any flying that comes open. It doesn’t matter why. That’s why its called reserve. On average, the number of hours that reserves get paid for in a month vs the number of hours they actually fly is much greater than lineholders. I am amazed that many pilots don’t just bid reserve in slower months. I just checked Denver Airbus FO and most reserves have flown between 20-50 hours and the month is almost over. Must suck to fly 20 hours and get paid for 73.
