VP of Flt Ops is an operational position, he may be part of the "administration, but I do not consider him part of upper management He has no say on the future fleet or routes. The current management said 1-2% fleet growth thru 2020 that jibes perfectly with the 2000/3000 statement.
Look I'm not saying everything is perfect by a long shot. I'm merely pointing out we are getting exactly what management told us in terms of fleet growth and furthermore there will be no "big" fleet announcements anytime soon. To me 1-2% growth is phenomenal in an industry where growth has often led to collapse because this time the company is not out loading up on new airframes that they'd be stuck with in a downturn. Instead we have a fleet like the 767 fleet that could be parked tomorrow at very little cost. I believe slow and steady wins the race, and I am glad we are not trying to grow to 20000 pilots in 5 years.
