It was pretty much that same way at ‘start up’ at Federal Express. Most of the initial ‘hires’ were high time, mature military retirees and others with former airline operating experience. You are overlooking the safety aspect.

You want to buy a bunch of new jets and turn them over to a cadre of ‘nuggets’ in the left seat?

It would be a recipe for disaster to spend all that money a throw a bunch of low time, inexperienced captains out there to operate in an unfamiliar regime -under all weather conditions.

In our case, the ‘customers’ were only trusting their 'boxes' to us. . NOT their lives. I know the traveling public is generally ignorant, but in this case they are planting their keister in the seats . . NOT their Priority One Letter. SO . . from a PR standpoint . . as well as common sense . . it makes good sense. Too bad they won’t hire ‘over 60’ types . . I haven’t met a virgin in years. <g>
