At UPS the company owns the Jumpseat, not the Captain. And the FAA has supported UPS on this!!!!!!!!!!!
So much for Captains Authority. The FAA supports the Airlines, not the Regulations.
Why don't you tell the whole story. The company convinced the FAA (correctly) that crews were using the jumpseats to pressure the company during negotiations. The FAA refused to get involved, other than making it clear that this was not appropriate.
Captains authority is alive and well at UPS, unless you are a weenie, in which case you never had it anyway.
