Does atlas not carry a fly away kit with 2,000-3,000 lbs worth of spares? Does atlas have ride along mechanics?
Kalitta like all airlines share parts all the time. I have had FME's share and receive parts with other airlines many times. If Atlas or any other company needs parts they only need contact K4 maintenance control where a decision will be made as to if they can spare the parts and at what price if they can. If this happened as you say I believe someone was trying to do something outside of the normal communications.
