SA (Don't know about SAT) used to have a program called CA qualified FO. On seniority list you were officially an FO but flew as a CA, signed for the jet, got paid as a CA for the leg, and were responsible for EVERYTHING. Yeah, great deal for the company; not so much for the pilot who was a temp PIC.
