Because we cater to the leisure market, our flying has large seasonal shifts, particularly from Florida in the winter, to the west coast in the summer.
It used to be pretty often pre contract. Post contract, they built up VBD and it became much less. Word is that VBD is going to greatly reduce after the transition, so I'm thinking TDY will become common again.
If there's any corporate memory left over at HQ, the new people making decisions should ask the veterans why mass TDY was stopped and how come ****ed off pilots cost the company way more than happy ones. Everybody was told when they signed up here that if you move to base you'll be home with your family every night. Then they turn around and get TDY'd 2000 miles away for 4 months straight. No bueno.
And apparently TDY/VBD pilots aren't being given rental cars anymore either. Also being assigned short stay hotels without a kitchenette for a month long stay. So all of these involuntary TDYs are literally going to become hostages in a hotel with applelebes in the parking lot and nothing else around. Not what you would expect from the nation's most profitable airline!
