The Deltona/ Enterprise area (not Daytona) isn't bad if you like to boat/outdoors stuff and want some privacy and is about 20-30 mins from MCO.
I've heard to stay away from Lake Nora (pollutted water?) but I don't have any personal experience.
Cocoa Beach/ Titusville is less than an hour away and is a nice area.
Winter Haven is a nice (more upper class IMO) area.
There are tons of options within 2 hours of MCO needless to say. It only takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to drive East coast to West coast (Daytona Beach to Tampa).
That's what I was about to suggest. Even Lakeland is a nice area where you can find awesome deals for housing. Not to mention I-4 can take you to Tampa or Orlando, with the traffic not all that bad.
