This has been my same thoughts but you do bring up a good point which is the union playing scared. I think this is a realistic and alarming position we find ourselves in. The company is very termination-happy and there's no easier target for them than union volunteers that stand up to them. History proves this to be true.
Wow i didn’t know that termination of a volunteer was a tactic used in the past. If that is true, I would gladly kick in another couple bucks to get people in there that can’t be terminated, ie a professional negotiator.
