I like working at Envoy. There are many things that can be improved, but I take this perspective; 99% of the pilots that I fly with have been awesome. From the lifers to the the brand new captains, everyone has treated me well, and I can’t complain.
The captains will help you out during your learning process and there are some amazing ones out there. I have yet to meet one who isn’t willing to share advice on technique or give feedback.
I haven’t had any issues with the CPO. If I’ve had a question, I have asked, and gotten answers. I’m not saying I trust them, or feel that they’re on my side. I’m only saying that I haven’t had a negative encounter to date.
My first year came and went. I managed to make it through probation doing a 2-leg commute to LGA without using a commuter clause or calling in, and then transferred to ORD where the commute is much much easier (live in base if you can.)
There are a lot of things that can be improved upon here. It’s no secret that our reserve system is bad. This is a huge reason why a number of us are going back to reserve and not flying so that we don’t hit 1000 hours and are forced to upgrade and sit again. I would rather stay a f/o for 6 months and be on RAP 1 from home than commute to LGA again and ride the couch there. Changes have to be made for Envoy to be competitive.
Pay and compensation...there’s nothing to say there. Improvements have to be made. However as long as we keep filling classes then there is no reason for the company to willingly part with their money.
Dropping trips a near impossible task. Despite having 45 people on reserve, scheduling still shows red and will deny your drop. That gets kind of old.
All in all, I am happy here. Do I plan on staying longer than necessary? Nope. I’m going to get my time and move on, but I enjoy the people that I fly with, and have had a tremendous learning experience.
