You’re an imbecile if you don’t think history will repeat itself. The industry is cyclical, the executives that run it are not even remotely creative. Even if this industry is still in a good condition 5 years from now, you’ll still be stuck bargaining past the amendable date for 2-3 years, exactly because they got a bargain on this contract. It will be no better than the set of conditions you’re under now, except in the year 2025 or 2026. For those who make it to Spirit around the age of 33 and plan to retire at age 65, 8 years under the next contract will be 25% of your entire career. I wouldn’t be in a huge hurry to start that 8 year clock on a painful “fly it and grieve it” contract. Whackmaster is right, don’t sacrifice your leverage.
