My monthly average this year is 14 days off and about 94 hours of credit, with probably 75% of all weekend days off.
I personally do not pick up open time, but I will swap trips with opentime and will pick up flying from pilots that are trying to drop. My opinion is the airline can hire and upgrade more if they need the flying covered...but I don't hold anything against those that do for financial reasons.
Working to damn much is relative. In my previous job I average 80-90 hour weeks with no overtime. It's what the job demanded to accomplish what I accomplished. If I pick up a trip it still less work than what I'm used to. I do what I have to do because I know what I need to do.
P.S. I don’t do it for the money, it just a byproduct. But I will put up a fight to get paid what I feel my time is worth and frankly we're paid way too little. None that less, I love my job.
