I think there is some sort of parameter that sets off an alert when you call in sick- not sure what it is- maybe over three times in one year? I think then your ACP looks at your history and decides if he wants to follow up. Anyone know for sure? I think most ACP's are just trying to see if things are ok, I don't think it's a witch hunt.
We have gotten emails from management stating we are NOT to call in sick for doctor appointments, sick kids, sick spouses, etc. They want us to call the ACP and tell him what is happening. If your kid is sick, or your wife, that might put you in a state where stress and worry would affect your flying. So why the big stink from mangement anyway? Any one of those situation from the FAA's "I'M SAFE" acronym means a sick call.
Illness
Medication
Stress
Alcohol
Fatigue
Eating
There will always be guys that "abuse" it. We shouldn't all get screwed.
And despite that email from "O", you do not have to explain anything. Fatigue and flying is in our contract, and it says nothing in there about explaining yourself. If you can't sleep, you can't sleep! If you call in fatigued, isn't the reason obvious? You WERE FATIGUED!!!!!
