You can bet over the last 10 years Mitsubishi pulled out every stop to get it to 86,000. With the new changes I doubt it will even make the 87,300 they claim. The geared engines are heavy.
The 175 E2s with geared turbofans have the same problem as the MRJ and are over scope limitations at 98,767 LB.
