I'll let others speak from experience but you'll get by far the best schedule if you are in NYC. I don't personally do the commute but with the frequency of the flights (upwards of 40 a day to LGA and I believe about 10 - 15 to JFK) and the fact that it's not really "hub to hub" with any of our bases, it should be quite easy. To make matters better JFK to ORD is flown on our metal and the overwhelming majority of the 900s on that route (all but 5 until we got the ASA planes) have 2 jumpseats (cockpit and extra fa). i can't imagine commutes to other bases being difficult but NYC should be the best schedule.
To add on to this, even tho it’s shuttle, LGA-ORD is routinely full on delta and it’s operated by Republic. Unlike DCA which is usually wide open day in and day out. American and United however usually have some seats.
A mainline pilot told me a few months back that JFK-ORD she usually has to stick with the jumpseat
