That seems to be the dark little secret that nobody wants to talk about. Whether you die shortly after you retire at 65 or live to be 120, you will still be collecting for 5 years less. That is 5 more years that the company can let the money pool that will be paying your retirement fatten before they have to give it to you.

For many of us that were fortunate to be hired young, we will be working for some amount of years with no contribution into our A plans as we only get contributions for 30 years. Might be just a personal thing, but I don't think that one pilot in the same longevity bracket should ever be cheaper to the company than another.
