I was a regional pilot for five years prior to getting hired by NWA/Delta. Never once did it cross my mind to whine about how much better the mainline guys had it than me. I chose to spend my time building up my resume to give myself the best chance of making it to the mainline when my time came to interview.
So in my opinion, no, you aren’t getting it right.
Some people go out an earn what they want through hard work, networking, perseverence and interview prep.
Others rationalize and whine.
