CLT would definitely work better. The best driving route to CLT runs south of the airport so it might make a shorter drive with less I-26 road construction to deal with, if you live south of the airport, like near Hendersonville. Traffic heading into Charlotte from Gastonia in the morning on weekdays is treacherous, and I think it was mentioned to use the commuter hotel for morning showtimes. The flights are pretty good, but do get cancelled occasionally and at peak times, like summer, leaf season, and during the solar eclipse they were heavily booked.
