I agree. That is what people SHOULD do. Unfortunately, humans are fallible. An error tolerant system should have systematic safety measures in place to account for humans not performing correctly in stressful situations. Kind of like the little card ALAP hand out for what to do and who to call if you get in an accident.
This situation is like having a tire blow out on landing and ALPA and the company saying "Don't tell the FAA." Not doing so only makes it harder to prove the innocence of EITHER party.
Alaska Airlines doesn’t have a forensics team. There’s no way for them to prove innocence in either direction.
