Dec, 30th. A few years back, I had the jumpseat from DTW-ORD booked on us. Mich St was playing in the Rose Bowl in two days in Pasadena. We only had 3 flights that day and after the 11:00 am flight, I only had one more shot on us. We fly up from FLL and get into a gate right across the hall from my ORD flight, 20minutes early. I walk up to the gate to check in for my jumpseat....I’m sorry sir, the FAA is doing an observation. What? On Dec 30th, he’s getting his required observations in still? Or is he going to celebrate New Years in Chicago? I ended up, after trying AMR eagle and United for several hours, renting a car and driving the 5 hours, because an FAA guy out prioritied me on a jumpseat when we were both probably just going home. I’ll never forget that. Yes Sailing, I was going home. Not privy to the PS seat, but it still sucked. He wasn’t doing any work on the second to last day of the year.
