A point of view from an "old" retired 767/757 driver. I believe that everyone pays in one way or another. I paid by spending 6 years in the Navy and one of my sons paid by flying checks all night long for 2 years @ $.05/mile JUST to build flying time. Flying is a terrible affliction with no known cure.
