That's not an excuse. There are plenty of ways to cut costs in negotiations than to sell scope. The older generation of mainline pilots (including many current retirees) decided to sell their scope instead of taking a bigger hit in their pay rates. They wanted to keep as much money for themselves as possible, and were too SHORT-SIGHTED to see the long term effects it would have on the industry.
Now they have to live with the consequences of that choice, as do we all.....But thanks to their choices they should have more money to enjoy in their retirement. Perhaps enough to buy a ticket when they go on holiday. Unfortunately the regional pilots that they created cannot afford to buy tickets every time they need to get to work.
