See this is the issue. Spirit doesn’t care who they get. Meat in a seat. They will obviously take the best candidate they can get but if it comes down to money or lowering the qualifications, they will pick the later every time. That affects my day to day and Spirit should be a stage in someone’s career where they continue to pay dues (figuratively). I don’t want the guy next to me to have no experience and I don’t expect someone with experience to have to make poverty wages and have to decide whether they can afford to take their child to the doctor when they’re sick.
It’s on us as a union to do the right thing to make sure we have the best sitting next to us every day because Spirit doesn’t care. And when other options are available for qualified applicants, the best will go where they get a reasonable starting salary from day one and healthcare. Our training pay attracts those willing to accept less when currently others pay more. Do you want that guy to have a vote next round?
