The wide bodies typically start and end in their respective bases.
However, there are exceptions. There's an RDU-LHR trip. There's no 777 base in RDU, so it's staffed by some other base. In the past it's been any of them, but as of late, it seems to be staying in ORD. I believe it's a 5 or 6 day trip with deadheads to RDU on each end.
I've also seen 6 day trips where you fly from your respective base to LHR, then to another wide body base, then back to LHR and back home.
In other words, it's not common, but not unheard of.
